Wine at the heart of the local heritage

Wine is our heritage is a unique opportunity to understand the destiny of a town that is twice a thousand years old. Narbonne has undergone many changes over the centuries, most of them closely linked to wine-growing.

As you travel back in time, you’ll discover its many facets : first daughter of Rome, strategic and economic crossroads of the Empire, prosperous medieval city, epicentre of wine-growing expansion in the 19th century and then of the revolt of the poor at the beginning of the following century.

In all these periods, wine played a central role, influencing Narbonne’s development and shaping its identity. Today, Narbonne is a leading centre for wine tourism and the art of living in the South of France.

Wine is our heritage is an original exploration of Narbonne’s cultural and gastronomic heritage

Narbonne : between ancient remains, medieval history and modernity

We’ll start our exploration at the exceptional Gallo-Roman remains of the Clos de la Lombarde, then wander through the medieval streets of the city to its monumental heart, a place where ancient, medieval and contemporary history meet.
With wine as our common thread, we’ll cross the Pont des Marchands (Merchants‘ Bridge) and walk along the quays of the Canal de la Robine,by bringing their golden age back to life, from the arrival of Roman amphorae to the hustle and bustle of the cafés and the famous Halles de Narbonne market, not forgetting the construction of the pinardières houses.
Your immersion will end with a guided tasting in an authentic, friendly and gourmet atmosphere.
